The Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting 2023 scholarship

About the Program

The Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting provides scholarships and mentoring, supporting equitable access to education and the advancement of women who are pursuing careers in accounting.

Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Women In Transition – This scholarship is designated for a woman who is the primary source of support for her family and is enrolling as an incoming freshman to earn a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. It is awarded for up to $16,000 over four years as determined by the Board of Trustees and will be renewed annually upon completion of satisfactory course work as evidenced by a 3.0 GPA.
  • Women In Need – This scholarship is for a woman who is the primary source of support for her family and is completing her sophomore year of academic pursuit to earn a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. It is awarded in the amount of $2,000 per year for two years and will be renewed for the second year upon completion of satisfactory course work as evidenced by a 3.0 GPA.
  • Institute of Management Accountants IMA® – IMA is funding two one-year undergraduate scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each for women who are working toward a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. In addition to the cash award, scholarship recipients will receive a complimentary one-year student membership to the IMA (a $39 value), the CMA exam entrance fee (a $250 value), as well as the exam registration fee (valued at $415 per part). The CMA exam entrance and registration fees have a two year time limit and are non-transferrable.
  • EFWA Undergraduate – EFWA is funding several one-year undergraduate scholarships in various amounts between $1,000 and $2,500 each for women who are working towards a Bachelors Degree in Accounting attending an accredited school. These students can be incoming freshman or women returning to school pursuing their undergraduate degree.
Selection Criteria
  • Female US citizen attending accredited US school pursuing an accounting degree.
  • Commitment to the goal of pursuing a degree in Accounting in preparation for a career as an accounting or finance professional, including evidence of continued commitment to this goal after receiving the award.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in accounting and business as evidenced by prior course work and/or work experience.
  • Clear evidence that goals and a plan for achieving those goals, both personal and professional, have been established.
  • Financial need
  • Scholarship recipients will be selected by June 30.

Applications must be completed by April 30.

Graduate Scholarship

  • Institute of Management Accountants IMA® – IMA is funding a one-year scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a student who is beginning her graduate studies. In addition to the cash award, scholarship recipients will receive a complimentary one-year student membership to the IMA (a $39 value), the CMA exam entrance fee (a $250 value), as well as the exam registration fee (valued at $415 per part). The CMA exam entrance and registration fees have a two year time limit and are non-transferrable. .
  • EFWA Graduate – EFWA is funding one or more one-year graduate scholarships in various amounts between $1,000 and $2,500 each for women who are working towards graduate studies at an accredited school within a graduate program.
Selection Criteria
  • Female US citizen attending accredited US school pursuing an accounting degree.
  • Commitment to the goal of pursuing a degree in Accounting in preparation for a career as an accounting or finance professional, including evidence of continued commitment to this goal after receiving the award.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in accounting and business as evidenced by prior course work and/or work experience.

Postgraduate Scholarship

The Laurels Fund was established in 1978 for the purpose of providing scholarships to female students who are pursuing advanced degrees in Accounting.

This Fund provides one-year scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 each, for women who are pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Accounting.

The selection of award recipients is based on:

  • Scholarship, involving academic achievements in course work and research activities
  • Service, including any volunteer work to which the applicant has made significant or long-term commitments
  • Financial need

Application Process

  • A current curriculum vitae
  • One copy of the official transcript and current enrollment in your program
  • One copy of the abstract and citations of articles published and/or presented at academic conferences
  • One copy of any cases or materials you have developed, either single- or co-authored
  • One letter of reference based on scholarship, addressing both scholarship and teaching potential
  • A second letter of reference on character and leadership potential
  • A statement of personal and career goals and objectives

Recipients may be asked to make appearances at regional or national accounting conferences. Scholarship recipients will be selected by June 30.

Applications must be completed by May 15.
